- [Narrator] Welcome to our Slideology series. In this episode we are going to discuss how side space and mounting are used to get the best performance from your slides. Proper side spacing is important for long-lasting and smooth-functioning drawers. Before selecting a slide, determine the width between the surfaces of your drawer and cabinet. The anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) is one of the key ligaments that help stabilize the knee joint. The ACL connects the thighbone (femur) to the shinbone (tibia). Its most commonly torn during sports that involve sudden stops and changes in direction such as basketball, soccer, tennis and volleyball.
The ACL arises from the anteromedial aspect of the intercondylar area on the tibial plateau and passes upwards and backwards to attach to the posteromedial aspect of the lateral femoral condyle.
There are two components of the ACL, the anteromedial bundle (AMB) and the posterolateral bundle (PLB). They are not isometric with the main change being lengthening of the AMB and shortening of the PLB during flexion.
ACL injuries often happen during sports and fitness activities that can put stress on the knee: Suddenly slowing down and changing direction (cutting) Pivoting with your foot firmly planted. Landing awkwardly from a jump.
Very minor tears (sprains) may heal with non-surgical treatments and regenerative medicine therapy. But full ACL tears cannot be healed without surgery. If your activities do not involve making pivoting movements on the knee, physical therapy rehabilitation may be all you need.
An ACL tear is a very common knee injury. It can happen to athletes who play sports like football, basketball, soccer and volleyball, and to those who work physical jobs. There are surgical and nonsurgical treatments. Most people recover from an ACL tear within six to nine months.
Jumping, quick changes of direction, sprinting, or twisting all put increased stress on the ACL. If the feet and lower leg are planted and the upper body is twisted or has sufficient momentum, the force can pry the bones apart and rip the ACL.
Rest Immobilization: Once an ACL injury is diagnosed it is important that the affected area be rested immediately. Any further movement or stress will only aggravate the condition and prolong recovery.
ACL Rehab Exercises to Avoid Excessive weight-bearing before your body is ready. Early in the recovery process, perhaps even immediately after surgery, a doctor or physical therapist may instruct you to put some weight on the injured leg. Walking without support too early. Full-range open-chain knee extension.
The ACL footprint is positioned at the space formed by the residents ridge, the cartilage margin of the lateral femoral condyle, and Blumensaats line. The center of this footprint could serve as a reference point for femoral tunnel formation during anatomical single-bundle ACLR.
