the media Gallery template were creating is based on a portrait layout and that just means that the slide is taller rather than the wider or lscape mode that most projects are created in so to change the orientation of the slide we just go up to the design tab go to slide size over here and choose custom slide size now because Im working in PowerPoint 2013 the default slide size is set to widescreen now I want this interaction to fill the portrait mode on an iPad so I need to work from that 4x3 ratio so the first thing Im going to do is change widescreen to onscreen show which is the 4x3 and to rotate my slides I just need to select the portrait layout and if you are familiar with the measurements then youll recognize that the 10in X 7.5 is also entered here although were used to seeing it as a 10 for the width and 7.5 for the height well thats it go ahead and click okay to return to the slide youre going to get a couple options these really dont make a difference to us because

The 16:9 aspect ratio is the most commonly recommended for PowerPoint slides. Using the 16:9 aspect ratio provides a widescreen format that is compatible with modern devices and projectors. Consider your audience and their devices when choosing the ideal aspect ratio for your presentation.
Use 4:3 if your are creating multi-purpose content that is going to be shown across different platforms and to be printed as documentation. Use 16:9 if you are creating highly visual content that is only going to be shown on a screen for a keynote or a conference presentation.
Many users now see the 4:3 as being a bit outdated, whereas the 16:9 shows youve kept up. This argument can trump all other questions, such as those regarding equipment, technology or print-outs, and applies to both the internal and external image of your team or organization.
On-screen Show (16:9) sets the slide dimensions to 10 in x 5.625 in. Widescreen sets the dimensions to 13.333 in x 7.5 in. Both of these options are the same aspect ratio so they will look the same in Normal View, since PowerPoint automatically adjusts the zoom level. Widescreen (13.333 in x 7.5 in.)
Widescreen (13.333 in x 7.5 in.) provides more slide surface area for the content, so that is the best choice for presentations. Widescreen wont fit on an 8.5 x 11 sheet of paper without you having to scale it down.
With recent advances in technology that is seeing widescreen devices becoming the norm, 16:9 is now considered the standard size for on-screen presentations over 4:3.
If you work extensively with iPads and presentations in the field then 4:3 is the format for you. In most cases, however, 16:9 remains the aspect ratio of choice for PowerPoint presentations.
Default PowerPoint is NOT HD. So we know that the default dimension of a presentation is 1280 x 720, and that your HD television is capable of displaying 1920 x 1080. You see already a problem with default PowerPoint presentations. Default PowerPoint presentations are not in HD; they are of lower quality.
