Form 1040 is the standard tax return form that most individual taxpayers use every year. The IRS no longer accepts Forms 1040EZ or Form 1040A as of tax year 2018. Form 1040EZ was meant for individuals who didnt take credits or deductions. Form 1040A limited the amount of deductions and credits taxpayers could claim.
In the past, if you had a simple tax return to prepare, you likely filed your return with IRS Form 1040EZ. This form covered a broad range of taxpayers. However, filing with Form 1040EZ is no longer an option. This form has since been replaced by Form 1040 and Form 1040-SR, depending on your tax situation.
Although you will have to calculate your taxes yourself, the IRS allows you to e-file the forms at no chargebut you must create an online account with the IRS in order to do so.
Form 1040EZ, Income Tax Return for Single and Joint Filers with No Dependents, is a shorter and simpler version of the 1040. This form provides individuals with no dependents and basic tax circumstances the opportunity to file their income taxes faster than ever.
Forms 1040A and 1040EZ are no longer available. Taxpayers who used one of these forms in the past will now file Form 1040.
The simplest IRS form is the Form 1040EZ.
On Line 1, include the income reported on your Form W-2 and attach your W-2 to the 1040EZ. On Line 2 you should report the taxable interest you earned. Remember, if this is more than $1,500 you cannot use Form 1040EZ. On Line 3, report any unemployment benefits or Alaska Permanent Fund dividend payments you received.
