Youll have to gently remove the slides from their casing and wipe them with isopropyl alcohol. After you wipe them down, youll want to leave them in a room with low humidity to dry out. Once theyve been dried for about 24 hours, you can re-mount them into the housing.
To clean, wet a cotton ball or a static-free cloth with the 98% isopropyl alcohol. Lightly wipe the negatives with the cotton ball and allow the negative to air dry. After your picture negatives are clean, remember to place them in a weather proof container, such as tupperware!
When slides get soiled, you can clean them with soapy water or isopropyl alcohol. Do not immerse slides in water or soak them in it. This loosens the cover glass adhesive, causing the cover glass to come off and possibly ruin the slide.
Use isopropyl alcohol and a cotton pad for mould. If your slide has mould on it, then you should use isopropyl alcohol. The alcohol-based cleaner must be 99.9% alcohol and have a neutral pH level because any water on your slide will soften and damage the emulsion.
Before scanning, make sure you wipe glass slides clean of water spots or fingerprints. For more stubborn stains, use water or alcohol. Do not load glass slides that are not completely dry into the magazine or else water or embedding medium may get into the scanning mechanism, causing inferior image quality.
