Muscle contraction is at the basis of all skeletal movements. Skeletal muscles are composed of muscles fibers which in turn are made of repetitive functional units called sarcomeres. Each sarcomere contains many parallel, overlapping thin (actin) and thick (myosin) filaments. The muscle contracts when these filaments slide past each other, resulting in a shortening of the sarcomere and thus the muscle. This is known as the sliding filament theory. Cross-bridge cycling forms the molecular basis for this sliding movement. - Muscle contraction is initiated when muscle fibers are stimulated by a nerve impulse and calcium ions are released. - The troponin units on the actin myofilaments are bound by calcium ions. The binding displaces tropomyosin along the myofilaments, which in turn exposes the myosin binding sites. - At this stage, the head of each myosin unit is bound to an ADP and a phosphate molecule remaining from the previous muscular contraction. - The myosin heads release these pho

In Chapter Two, we see foreshadowing in terms of Curleys wife; we see the foreshadowing of Candys dog being shot, and we also see the foreshadowing of an altercation between Lennie and Curley.
The death of Lennie is foreshadowed in Of Mice and Men chapter three. This is first foreshadowed when Carlson shoots Candys dog to put it out of its misery. Later, the events that lead to Lennies death are foreshadowed when George reveals to Slim the events that made the two leave Weed, California.
Published in 1937 and set during the Great Depression of the 1930s, Of Mice and Men explores the themes of loneliness and isolation. In a time when every man is for himself to survive, George and Lennie travel together and take responsibility for each other.
Foreshadowing is used throughout the novel to show that loneliness connects to every character in a dangerous way. That Candys dog was his lifelong companion, but since Candys dog was getting too old he had Carlson shoot his dog with his gun then Candy had started to felt lonely since Candy had lost his companion.
John Steinbecks Of Mice and Men is a parable about what it means to be human. Steinbecks story of George and Lennies ambition of owning their own ranch, and the obstacles that stand in the way of that ambition, reveal the nature of dreams, dignity, loneliness, and sacrifice.
The death of Curleys wife From the beginning of the novella, Steinbeck foreshadows that Lennie will accidentally kill Curleys wife while trying to stroke her hair. In the first section, George scolds Lennie for petting mice until they die.
The novels structure is cyclical, suggesting that the characters fates are inevitable. This makes the story seem fatalistic . Lennies dangerous behaviour escalates throughout the novel. George cannot seem to control him and Lennie cannot control himself, warning the reader that this will cause more serious harm.
There are four examples where foreshadowing is used in Of Mice and Men, plans go askew, death of Curleys wife, loss of farm dream, and death of Lennie.
