Created by former Apple brand ambassador Guy Kawasaki, the 10-20-30 rule states that a PowerPoint presentation should have no more than 10 slides, never last longer than 20 minutes, and should use a minimum point size of 30 for the font.
The default ratio for a Powerpoint presentation is 4:3. However, the default ratio of widescreen video is 16:9. (You can see how the outline is shaped more like a square in the 4:3 example versus the more rectangle in the 16:9 ratio example.
When we talk about headers and footers in a presentation, we mean the small details near the top or bottom of your slides. These include the slide number, a text footer, and the date. Headers and footers appear in various positions, depending on the theme and the slide layout.
Definition and meaning The title slide is the first slide of a presentation. It usually contains a title and a subtitle. Of all the slides in a presentation, the first slide is one of the most important, as the title slide generally sets the tone.
“Keep it to one slide for every three minutes.” Even presentation pros like Guy Kawasaki will advocate for the 10/20/30 rule (10 slides, 20 minutes, 30 point font). These rules aren't necessarily wrong, but I do feel they overlook one of the most important factors in your presentation: Your message.
16:9. Commonly known as widescreen, 16:9 is used for highly visual content and should be your default choice of size for creating presentations. This is because almost all modern projector screens, televisions, and computers display come in widescreen as a 16:9 layout.
On the Insert tab of the toolbar ribbon, select Header & Footer. The Header and Footer dialog box appears. In the Header and Footer dialog box, select the Notes and Handouts tab.
Click VIEW > Normal, and click the slide you want to change. ... Click INSERT > Header & Footer. Click the Slide tab, make the changes you want, and click either Apply to apply the changes to the selected slides, or Apply to All to make the changes to all the slides.
So the 16:9 aspect ratio (1920 x 1080 pixels or 13.3″ x 7.5″) became the new standard.
There are two options for 16:9 aspect ratios: On-screen Show (16:9) sets the slide dimensions to 10 in x 5.625 in. Widescreen sets the dimensions to 13.333 in x 7.5 in. Both of these options are the same aspect ratio so they will look the same in Normal View, since PowerPoint automatically adjusts the zoom level.
