By default, the Amazon ECS-optimized Amazon Linux AMI ships with 30 GiB of total storage. You can modify this value at launch time to increase the available storage on your Amazon EC2 instance. This storage is used for the operating system and for Docker images and metadata.
Disk and tiering limits by EC2 instance Cloud Volumes ONTAP uses EBS volumes as disks, with a maximum disk size of 16 TiB.
For instances with an instance store volume for the root volume, the size of this volume varies by AMI, but the maximum size is 10 GB. You can use a block device mapping to specify additional EBS volumes when you launch your instance, or you can attach additional EBS volumes after your instance is running.
AMI is divided into two categories: EBS - backed Instances. Instance Store - backed Instances.
An AMI owner can determine their instance availability through the following three launch permissions: Public, that grants instance launch permission to all AWS account holders. Explicit, that grants launch permission only to specific AWS accounts. Implicit, where only the AMI owner has permission to launch an instance.

An Amazon Machine Image (AMI) is a template that contains a software configuration (for example, an operating system, an application server, and applications). From an AMI, you launch an instance, which is a copy of the AMI running as a virtual server in the cloud.
Starting today, you can now store and restore up to 5TB Amazon Machine Images (AMIs) to and from an Amazon S3 bucket. This enables storing and transferring of larger AMIs between partitions. The old limit was 1TB.
