Anterior drawer testing of the ankle is commonly used to diagnose lateral ligamentous instability. Our hypothesis was that changing knee and ankle positions would change the stability of the ankle complex during anterior drawer testing.

In an explosive movement. This test is positive if the TBR translates anteriorly more than six millimeters or.
On pulling the tibia anteriorly, an intact ACL should prevent forward translational movement of the tibia on the femur ("firm end-feel"). Anterior translation of the tibia associated with a soft or a mushy end-feel indicates a positive test.
ACL LAXITY TESTS The most frequently used tests for assessing ACL laxity are the anterior drawer test, Lachman test, Maclntosh test, jerk test, flexion rotation drawer test, Slocum test, and Losee test.
If the tibia pulls forward or backward more than normal, the test is considered positive. Excessive displacement of the tibia anteriorly suggests that the anterior cruciate ligament is injured, whereas excessive posterior displacement of the tibia may indicate injury of the posterior cruciate ligament.
The test is considered positive if there is a lack of end feel or excessive anterior translation relative to the contralateral side. Theoretically, the anterior translation if less than 6mm. If it is more than 6mm, the test is considered positive.

The anterior drawer and Lachman tests are valuable means to assess ACL injuries.
The diagnosis of CCLR is typically based on the presence of the “cranial drawer sign”. In order to feel this, you dog will be placed on his/ her side, and the veterinarian will feel the knee for cranial drawer motion. This procedure is not painful; however, some dogs may be too tense to allow thorough palpation.
In this test, the dog's knee is slightly bent and anterior pressure is applied to the distal femur while posterior pressure is applied to the proximal tibia. Sliding of the distal femur over the proximal tibia (positive drawer sign) indicates cranial cruciate ligament rupture.
