a lot of l.l.bean jackets and parkas have a two-way zipper heres how you can use them properly you take the top slider slide it down so its flush with the bottom slider and then you take the zipper put it right in there until it really sits at the bottom of that second slider and then you pull on that top slider and its a nice smooth zip then you have access to the bottom slider and you can open that up and it really helps you sit more comfortably in the jacket or parka if you find youre having trouble with your two-way zipper really make sure it sits at the bottom of that second slider many times you can see that it might only go halfway down and youll have trouble zipping it so make sure that that really sits down properly at the bottom and then you can have that nice smooth zip on the top and access to that bottom slider

The three main types are Nylon Coil, Vislon (also known as Molded Tooth) and Metal zippers. On the back of each slider, there should be a couple letters and numbers. For example, if your zipper says YKK 5CN, you have a YKK brand zipper in size 5 coil.
As the slider moves up the zipper, the two teeth strips must enter at a specific angle. As the strips move through the slide, the slide's inclined edges push the teeth toward each other. The strips are offset from each other, so each hollow settles onto a hook in sequence.
Zipper tabs are the fabric at either end of the zipper and are commonly used in zipper pouches and sometimes in bags.
When looking to replace a zipper slider, you need to make sure you have the right type of slider to correspond with the teeth of your zipper tape. The slider needs to match the zipper teeth in both size and type. For example, a #5 VISLON® zipper needs a #5 VISLON Slider.
There are many types of zipper sliders out there, and it is important to identify the gauge and type of zipper teeth you will be working with. For example, if you have a #5 brass zipper, you will need a zipper slider that is described as a #5 gauge and designed for metal zippers.

Slider (the device that moves up and down the chain to open or close the zipper) Pull Tab or Puller (the part of the slider that is held to move the slider up or down) Tape Width (refers to the width of the fabric on both sides of the zipper chain)
A slider is used to join or separate the zipper elements when it is moved up or down the chain. It is mainly made up of the slider body/cramper/pull tab/crown/, etc. There are numerous zipper varieties available in the market. However, these zippers will not work well if the sliders are not installed properly.
Slider/Pull: The slider is connected to the teeth. This component zips the teeth apart or closed. The pull is attached to the slider and this is the portion of the zipper that you pull to open and close the zipper.
On the small piece on the very top of the zipper, you might see a number above an initial. The number indicates the zipper size (10, 5, etc.) and the initial signifies the type of zipper tape this slider works on.
