Israel and the Palestinian Authority have signed an agreement allowing the PA to collect its own taxes on fuel imports, reversing nearly 20 years of policy where Israel managed these taxes. This shift is expected to bolster the PA's budget, which has been strained due to ongoing sanctions. Former PA Minister Samia Abdullah stated that the agreement enables the PA to control roughly one-third of the taxes historically administered by the Israeli Finance Ministry. By circumventing Israeli administration fees, the PA will save an additional 3% on fuel costs, amounting to about 200-250 million shekels (over $70 million) monthly. This move aims to help sustain the PA government. However, there is criticism in Jerusalem regarding the agreement.
