Most employers check references as part of the hiring process. Checking references involves contacting previous employers, supervisors, schools, and so forth to verify key employment and educational information and learn more about a candidates background, experiences, and skills.
Many people ask what it means if an employer does a reference check after-interview for job-seekers, and the simple answer is that they are interested in you. However, it does not necessarily mean anything more than that, so dont start to get your hopes up too much, too soon.
If your experience goes well and you are selected as a potential candidate for the job, the next step is to offer you the job. Typically you only get a job offer after reference check, they need to confirm the experience and references you provided in you resume.
If an employer is checking references, it is a good indication that they are getting serious (and very close) to making you an offer on the job youve applied and interviewed for. Do not assume, however, that you have the job in the bag just because an employer is checking references.
Remember this: When a hiring company makes a call to your references, its almost always a good signso you can breathe easy. A reference check typically means a hiring manager is near-ready to extend an offer to a candidate, and they want one final confirmation that you are the right fit for their team, Foss says.
Types of Reference Checks References may be checked in writing, in which case the form is mailed to the candidates previous employer to be filled out. Other times, references may be checked over the phone and the form filled out by the prospective employer during the phone call.
Using a Reference Check Template Business name. References name. References position or title. References contact information. Relationship to the candidate (e.g., supervisor, manager, owner). Date range of employment. Candidates position or title. Job responsibilities.
