thank you I was asked to give a title to my talk and I said untypical types I meant by that a few typefaces which is sort of out of the run-of-the-mill of most of the work that I do because of how they came about or how theyamp;#39;re used or something about them thatamp;#39;s a little bit unusual that I can talk about I mean a lot of my work there isnamp;#39;t really much to say about it but these particular projects do have a bit of a backstory to them and so on this is the first one and this came about through a most serendipitous encounter I was back in London on a visit walking down Piccadilly walked into the Royal Academy to get out of the rain I think and found myself an astonishing exhibition of the work of the Italian Renaissance artist and romantic and what gobsmacked me about this exhibition was the lettering in Mantegnaamp;#39;s paintings and engravings which I thought was simply beautiful it was of course revived lettering with his revisited lettering of Imperial Rome

Called Opticals, these variations have been optimized for use at specific point sizes. Although the exact intended sizes vary by family, the general size ranges include: caption (6-8 point), regular (9-13 point), subhead (14-24 point) and display (25-72 point).
Optical sizing refers to the practice of type foundries creating slightly different versions of a typeface intended to be used at different sizes. Generally speaking, small (body or caption) optical sizes tend to have less stroke contrast, larger x-heights, wider characters, and more open spacing.
The optical size variation axis is represented by opsz in font-variation-settings . When optical sizing is used, small text sizes are often rendered with thicker strokes and larger serifs, whereas larger text is often rendered more delicately with more contrast between thicker and thinner strokes.
Font size refers to the measurement of a particular typeface in terms of its height. It is commonly used to describe the size of text displayed on digital devices such as computers and websites. The font size is usually measured in points, with one point being equal to 1/72nd of an inch.
The University of New Mexico uses two unique fonts in its branded communications: Vitesse and Gotham, in various weights. Vitesse is a bold slab-serif that can be used to grab attention, while Gotham is a modern sans-serif that communicates confidence and friendliness through its simplicity.
Optical sizes range from 20dp to 48dp. For the image to look the same at different sizes, the stroke weight (thickness) changes as the icon size scales. Optical size offers a way to automatically adjust the stroke weight when you increase or decrease the symbol size.
Eurostile is a geometric sans-serif typeface designed by Aldo Novarese in 1962. Novarese created Eurostile for one of the best-known Italian foundries, Nebiolo, in Turin. Novarese developed Eurostile to succeed the similar Microgramma, which he had helped design.
The name Umbra refers to its shadow effect, in which the actual letter shape consists of negative space and is defined solely by its black dimensional shadow. Several other typefaces were created in similar style around the same time, including shadowed weights of Gill Sans.
