Any malfunction or issue with the tested features can result in a failed car inspection. Common reasons for a failed vehicle inspection include: An active check engine light. Broken headlights and taillights.
Your car must have: No check engine light on. If you recently had a repair or cleared the codes, you must drive the car for up to 3 days before your cars computer has run all the tests.
NYS Inspection Fail List Worn brake pads or damaged rotors. Leaking brake fluid from hoses or the master cylinder. Inability to achieve a straight stop without pulling to one side.
In NYS, per CR-79 section 79.21 (a), you can fail a car if the brake pads are damaged, under 1/8 or the sensor is hitting. If the rotors are damaged. Any part of the system is leaking, or has visible cracks in hoses. If when braking it is pulling, the pedal fades or the power braking system isnt working.
