Stains lighten as they dry.
Minwax PolyShades is an easy way to change the color of your currently stained or polyurethane finished wood. Theres no stripping or heavy sanding necessary to remove the old finish!
Removing dark stains will involve stripping the finish from the wood, and sanding with a fine sandpaper to remove the stain. You will then need to refinish the affected area using Danish-oil. Continue to treat and polish the furniture as you would normally.
Removing the Dark Stain First strip the furniture with the stripper of your choice. Next, clean up the stripper with steel wool and mineral spirits. After the stripper is cleaned up, the next thing youll do is sand the piece of furniture. After youre done sanding its time to clean up the wood particles.
To enhance the woods color, staining should be fine. But to protect the wood against any chipping from impact, or from the elements, varnishing is your best choice. Many woodworkers decide to stain and varnish a wooden surface at the same time. Note if you use a water-based stain, use a water-based varnish.
Ill show you step, by step, how I develops shading with the acrylic glazing technique. Shading the transition from a dark value to a lighter value in a two-dimensional work of artis one of the most important techniques you can master to make a painting or drawing look realistic.
Yes, each layer will darken your project even more. You can also start with a lighter color Gel Stain and layer on darker colors.
A shading stain is a color added to a clear coat. It is used to add color and coating in each application, until the desired color is achieved, and then the clear coatings take over until the finish is completed. This is commonly called a shading stain finish.
