so I want to talk to you about why I stay in my canvas and why you might consider doing yourself the first thing I should say is you know canvas comes in white but but we could just as well ask why not paint on a black canvas instead of a white one but I wanted to give you my reasons why I paint on a neutral color which is neither black nor white and give you the pros and cons and the first thing is is that when you look at a color the background around it it absolutely affects how you perceive that color so that if I take this very same color and I put it on a black stained canvas it looks like this if I put it on a white stained canvas it looks like this and then if I put that same color on my neutral stained canvas which Iamp;#39;ve stained it looks like this and you could see how radically different the color looks depending on the background around it so the neutral color is just that itamp;#39;s a neutral color and itamp;#39;s a lot easier to kind of judge where your c

Leave the original stain in place if you want to stain the piece a darker color. If youre going from a light stain to a dark stain, theres no need to strip away the existing stain first. However, keep in mind that the existing stain may alter the color of the finished product.
Apply a second coat of stain after the first has dried fully. This will usually produce a darker coloring, but it adds a step to the process and slows production. Substitute a glaze or gel stain for the liquid stain. Glazes and gel stains usually contain a higher ratio of pigment.

Theres no stripping or heavy sanding necessary to remove the old finish! Simply give it a light sanding with fine-grit sandpaper, remove sanding dust, and brush on a coat of PolyShades (see step-by-step instructions provided in this Guide).
Staining over an old, failing finish can lead to premature peeling or flaking of the new stain. Stripping eliminates this risk by ensuring a strong bond between the wood and the fresh stain.
Minwax PolyShades is an easy way to change the color of your currently stained or polyurethane finished wood. Theres no stripping or heavy sanding necessary to remove the old finish!
If your existing deck stain is: Light: Apply a similar or darker stain color without additional preparation required. Dark: This will be hard to cover with a lighter semi-transparent color, as the old/dark color will come through.
The good news is it is technically possible to make a stain treatment lighter. The bad news is it takes an extraordinary amount of effort, and its often better to replace the wood entirely or paint over it.
