—In architectural drawings, shades and shadows are generally shown on vertical planes, or surfaces, such as walls, doors and windows, and occasionally on hori zontal planes and on sloping roof surfaces. In every case, the simple principles of projection drawing are all that are required in locating shadows on drawings.
Shade is a hue or mixture of pure colors to which only black is added. It contains no white or gray. Shade darkens the color, but the hue remains the same. When mixing a shade, begin with the color itself then add black one drop at a time.
If you draw shadows manually to add a sense of depth to an elevation or plan it is common to use a 45º angle (also 30º and 60º). Length of the shadows can then be drawn at 2/3 the actual length or the full length. This simple approach works well on relatively planar elevations and plans.

The shade is the area away from direct sunlight. It's the darker, cooler area when it's too bright and too hot in the sun. A shadow is the dark shape made on a surface when a person or an object is in the way between that same surface and a source of light ; the source of light can be an artificial light or the sun.
There are two types of shadows: form shadows and cast shadows. The name tells you how each is created. The form shadow happens as light moves around the form. The cast shadow is cast by another object blocking the light.
Shade can refer to any dark area in which sunlight or other bright light is blocked. Shadow refers to the dark shape that appears on a surface when an object blocks sunlight or other light.
In architectural drawing, sciography is the study of shades and shadows cast by simple architectural forms on plane surfaces. In general sciography, the light source is imagined as the sun inclined at 45 degrees to both vertical plane and horizontal plane coming from left hand side. The resultant shadow is then drawn.
