The umbra, penumbra and antumbra are three distinct parts of a shadow, created by any light source after impinging on an opaque object. Assuming no diffraction, for a collimated beam (such as a point source) of light, only the umbra is cast.
Form shadows happen when part of an object lies on the opposite side or away from the light source, and therefore does not sit directly in the light. It still is affected by the light indirectly, and has color and dimension, but does not sit in the direct path of the light source.
It is the dark side on an object not facing the light that reveals the form and mass of the shape. The very darkest point within the Form Shadow is called the Form Shadow Core. It falls under the Shadow Line (or Terminator) on the dark side and is where there is no light hitting the surface.

There are two types of shadows: form shadows and cast shadows. The name tells you how each is created. The form shadow happens as light moves around the form. The cast shadow is cast by another object blocking the light.
There are two kinds of shadows that occur when one light shines on an object, a cast shadow and a form shadow. Cast shadow: When an object blocks a light source it creates a shadow. ... Form shadow: A form shadow is the less defined dark side on an object not facing the light source.
In architecture it is defined as a study of shades and shadows cast by simple architectural forms on plane surfaces. In general sciography the light source is imagined as the sun inclined at 45 degrees to both vertical plane and horizontal plane coming from left hand side. The resultant shadow is then drawn.
Shade can refer to any dark area in which sunlight or other bright light is blocked. Shadow refers to the dark shape that appears on a surface when an object blocks sunlight or other light.
