installing sail shades is a great affordable option but theres a few details that can make or break your sail shades the first thing that youre going to want to do is pick out the shape of your sail shade i would recommend a square or a rectangle i know a lot of you guys like the triangle look but for one youre not going to get as much shade for two you can actually manipulate the square of the rectangle to make the design that you want how you secure your sail shade is the next question now you can secure it to a house or maybe you have a tree but most of you arent going to be lucky enough to have four things that you can attach it to that is strong enough to withstand the tension because theres going to be a lot of tension so only secure it to your house if its just something strong enough that can withstand the tension so most of you are going to want to do this option so this is a 4x6 and the reason that i chose something so big is because im compensating no but for real gu

Without a wire rope around the perimeter, tension applied at each attachment point is not distributed evenly in the sail, creating areas of concentrated stress around the corners. This causes the center to sag and increases the risk of tearing at the corners.
You can make sure water runs off the shade sail by installing it at an angle. Another way to make water run off the sail is to use a hypar twist. Hypar stands for hyperbolic parabaloid. Its simply a twist in the design that allows water to run off the sail.
Shade cloth is the most common type fabric used for shade structures, and it is designed specially to block UV and protect us from the sun. It has a woven mesh construction and breaks the fall of rain, however water can pass through this fabric, so when the rain is heavy it will drip through easily.
Without a wire rope around the perimeter, tension applied at each attachment point is not distributed evenly in the sail, creating areas of concentrated stress around the corners. This causes the center to sag and increases the risk of tearing at the corners.
To avoid rain water pooling, you need to angle your sail so that: Triangle Sails have at least one corner that is at an angle of 20-30 degrees lower than the others. Rectangle and Square Sails have two corners that is at an angle of 20-30 degrees lower than the others.
You cannot waterproof existing shade sails made from shade cloth. You must purchase waterproof shade sails. The difference is waterproof shade sails are manufactured from fabrics that have waterproof properties; fabrics such as DriZ, Serge Ferrari, Polyplan 680 and Valmex 580S.
You can leave a shade sail up in the rain without worrying that it might be ruined. However, shade fabric is water permeable, meaning that it will not prevent all water from passing through, especially if water is allowed to pool on top.
Shade Sail Disadvantages While shade sails can be extremely effective in providing protection against the sun, some, particularly those that are of low quality, cannot withstand extreme weather conditions. During harsh storms, the fabric may sag due to water accumulation.
