severance packages have you been laid off or fired from your job there are number rules that govern severance packages some of which are statutory some are contractual and some are common law so what youre entitled to is going to change depending on your personal circumstances and its really important to have a lawyer review it most lawyers should for a nominal flat fee review your case unless you know if you have the ability to go and ask your employer for more money or if the packages are offering you is fair if they dont what they can do is on a contingency basis charge you only for the amount that they get for you on top of whats already been offered so in terms of pursuing something more it shouldnt be a risk to you if you have any questions make sure you call and understand your rights before you sign anything off thats it for now and thats another edition of the Kahane law legal minute thank you

Withholding on severance pay includes all federal, state, and local taxes. Payroll taxes on severance pay include income taxes, federal income tax (FUTA tax), Social Security tax, and Medicare tax.
Section 415 Compensation Amounts The payment is made by the later of 2 months after severance from employment or the end of the limitation year that includes the date of severance from employment with the employer maintaining the plan.
