Today I want to introduce you to my upcoming workshop, Portrait Painting from a Photo. As a professional artist working in my studio, I love working from life, but most of the time I dont have access to a live model, so it ends up being more convenient to work from a photo. We are going to be discussing how to select a good image reference, what to look for in a photo in order to know if it is a good reference or not, and how to overcome those issues that working from a photo can present. You will be learning the main principles of portraiture: composition and lighting, understanding the structure of the head, proportions and ideals of the head, your palette and how to mix flesh tones. I will supply images to the students. In case any of the students want to bring your own photos, you can bring it into the workshop and Ill have to make sure it has what it needs to be a good painting, so I have to approve it first. But you are always welcome to bring those photos and discuss it with m
