So what is the 30/5 rule? Its the rule that accounts for things that typically take 5 minutes in real life that will take 30 minutes on a wedding day. It also means that 30 minutes on a wedding day will feel like 5 minutes. You may have heard people say over and over that your wedding day will fly by.
Advice Formals should take around 45 minutes to 1 hour depending on the size of your family and the number of guests. Plan on 3 minutes per group on average. For example, if you have 10 groups, schedule in a 30 minute time slot.
One of the biggest things many dont think about with sunset photography is that sometimes the magic doesnt even happen until maybe 15 to 20 minutes after the sun actually sets. Its best to scope out a location about 45 minutes before sunset, get all of your equipment set up, and then relax and wait.
The angle of the sun creates a warm, otherwise known as golden, colored light that is considered romantic. Its also a soft flattering light thats great for pictures of people especially couples that want that romantic look.
Golden hour is when the sun is low on the horizon, typically an hour before sunset or after sunrise. The light is warm, soft, and flattering during this time, making it the perfect time for wedding photography.
If youve decided not to do a first look, you need to pick a ceremony time with enough light left to do all of your formal pictures (wedding party, family, and couples portraits) before the sun sets. I typically recommend starting your ceremony no later than two hours before sunset.
Plan to take 10-20 minutes at 8:00 pm for sunset shots! The bulk of portraits can be done after your ceremony (or before if you have a first look). However, your photographer can alert you when its time to steal away from the reception for a few sunset photos.
The three main wedding photography styles are Light Airy, Dark Moody and Classic True to Life.
