He chooses a bluish-purple hue to draw inside the layer. With the mask active, he selects areas along the side for shading, fills them with color, and changes the layer blending mode to multiply. Finally, he adjusts the opacity to achieve the preferred effect. He also mentions that using a brush can yield similar results.
