hey guys so this is the second part level two of the simplifying from observation project and this time Im going to be reviewing your portraits but yeah basically the the project was to simplify the shapes the values and the edges into just almost the Bare Bones you know five values one Edge and shapes built off of Blocky streets oh okay so this ones a little different interesting so you have a lot of that that shadow that darkest dark is really dominant here and then Im not seeing very much Clarity in the lights which is interesting because usually when the light values are too close together usually the cause of that is when the artist or the student didnt make the Shadows dark enough and so it made it kind of forces the lights to just be like all within this little range because the Shadows are like taking up the middle part um but you made the Shadows very dark and so you have like almost the rest of the value scale for your lights but you still kept the lights extremely light

Professional photographers swear by the perfect light of the golden hour, which lasts for about an hour right after sunrise and an hour right before sunset when the sun is low in the sky and offers a soft, diffused light.
Typically, positioning yourself so the sun is behind you works best for landscape or action shots but if used with portraits, be aware of the above factors. More commonly known as back lighting, the technique of keeping the sun behind your subject can give equally successful results.
The last hour before sunset and the first hour after sunrise are coveted by professional photographers. Referred to as the golden hour or magic hour, these times provide the perfect light to capture stunning photos. Learning to harness the power of the golden hour is a tool every photographer can use.
Subject stands in open shade, facing towards reflected light source. Have your subject face the light source. The rule of thumb would be to have your subject look at where the light is being reflected from, but you could also use the reflected light as a side light. Place your subject close to the edge of the shadow.
Why do photographers prefer cloudy days for portraits? Soft light is always better for portraits and the such. If the sun is out, you have hard light with defined shadows. Behind the clouds, you have soft light with no defined shadows.
Lets list some reasons you probably dont want to shoot portraits in the sun: The light will be bright, contrasty, and the shadows will be hard and distinct. Your subject will probably squint. On a hot day, your subject will get hot, and cranky and both you and the subject wont have much fun.
Open shade is when your subject is standing in the shade with the sunlight above them. The magic of open shade is that it creates a beautiful even light across your subjects face and eyes that sparkle with catchlights.
