The human eye cannot tell the difference between brightness levels if they are within two points of each other. For reference, standard office paper typically has a brightness number between 80-100 and our US Office Copy Paper has a brightness of 92.
When it comes to the brightness of copy paper, the higher the number, the brighter. For instance, paper with a level 98 brightness is bright white, while 96 brightness is just slightly less bright, and 92 brightness is even less bright.
Paper Whiteness and the Difference from Brightness The whiteness makes the background color of the paper. Its also measured on a scale from 1-100, with 100 as super white while zero for the tint. Heres a cool thing: even though whiteness and brightness are related, theyre not the same thing.
This can be determined by examining how much white light is getting reflected from the paper surface. Papers are frequently sorted by their whiteness shade or rate. In this way, Paper Manufacturer must guarantee that the paper produces is coordinating the whiteness necessity also.
So, again: brightness refers to the amount of light reflected. Brighter papers have numbers like 92 to 98 bright. In contrast, newsprint is closer to 65 bright, and next to a 92 bright press sheet, newsprint looks dingy. Whiteness, on the other hand, refers to the color of light reflected.
The scale measures the amount of blue light reflected off the surface of the paper. The higher the number, the more light it is that is being reflected. Therefore, a paper brightness of 96 will reflect more light than a paper with a brightness level of 92. The higher the number, the brighter the paper will be.
Paper brightness measures the amount of light reflected from the surface of paper at one specific wavelength (457 nm) in the blue region of the spectrum, whereas whiteness measures the relative balance of light reflected across the full visible spectral range (approximately 380nm 720nm).
Deriving from the ink of the cuttlefish, the brown colouring of sepia tone is associated particularly with monochrome photographs of the 19th and early 20th centuries, so is typically the old paper colour.
Paper Shade Shade refers to the colour of the paper and doesnot take into account any reflected light. There are three main groups of white shades ? True White, Blue White and Cream White. The blue white shade is often used for paper, because it appears whiter than a true white.
Whiteness is measured via an index numbering system, where the higher the number the higher the whiteness. CIE Whiteness is the most commonly used index in measuring whiteness and measurements are usually made under what they call D65 illumination (which is a standard representation of outdoor daylight).
