Whether you are applying to DO or MD schools, you can email your letter of intent to the Director or Dean of Admissions. In some cases, schools may provide a portal for students to upload their letters instead.
If youre writing a professional recommendation, you might start with Dear Hiring Committee or Dear Hiring Manager. Another safe option is To Whom It May Concern, which you can use in lieu of a more specific form of address.
If you are required to send your letter of recommendation to a specific person (may be your future advisor), the admission committee, head of department or an office in the university where you are applying to, then you should tell your professor to address that specific person or office.
How to Write (Format) A letter of recommendation for medical school should fill at least one entire page (usually 400 600 words) and contain an introduction, up to 4 body paragraphs, and a conclusion. If the letter is being submitted by mail or fax, it should also include a standard letterhead.
If you are writing a personal letter of reference, include a salutation (Dear Dr. Smith, Dear Mr. Jones, etc.). If you are writing a general reference letter, say To Whom it May Concern or simply dont include a salutation.
How to write a letter of recommendation for medical school Determine how well you know the student. Create a letterhead. Explain how you know the student. Outline the students abilities. Compare the student to others. List some accomplishments and results of prior work. Review your letter.
Fantastic letters come from recommenders who can write about your specific traits and talents. Provide them with a copy of your CV or rsum, a personal statement, and any other materials that will remind them about what youve achieved. Also let them know which medical programs youre applying to and why.
Letters of recommendation should be addressed to the attention of a general admissions board (e.g., Dear Admissions Committee:) and not Career Services.
