Hi, this is Gary with MacMost.com. Lets talk about margins in Pages. MacMost is brought to you thanks to a great group of more than 1000 supporters. Go to MacMost.com/patreon. There you can read more about the Patreon Campaign. Join us and get exclusive content and course discounts. Lets start with a word processing document. So here we have our default Body Text. You can see the cursor blinking in that. Lets say we want to setup specific margins. First to actually see what the margins are set to you want to go to the Sidebar here. Go to Document. Then in the document area of the Sidebar you can find Document Margins. You can see here they are set to one inch all the way around, top, bottom, left, right. Now if you actually want to see the margins on the page we can. We can actually do that one of two ways. The first way is to go to View and lets Show Ruler. This will show the ruler here at the top of the page. Im going to zoom out a little bit to 75%.

In general, use margins when youre adjusting the spacing of an element in relation to another element (i.e a div in relation to another div on the page), and padding when youre adjusting the look of an individual element (i.e the amount of pixels between the edge of a div and the text within it).
Padding - The inner space between the content and the border of your box. Border - The perimeter of the box. Borders can be invisible or they could be a thick colored line like the green one pictured above. Margin - The outer space (or lack of space) surrounding the box.
Margin is the space outside of an element. It is the space between an element and the elements around it. If you want an element to be farther away from other elements, increase the margin property. Padding is the space inside of an element.
In web development and design, the margin of an element represents the outside space of the element itself, while the padding represents the inner space surrounding the element. Its important to understand how different components, such as padding and margins, come together to separate text and graphics.
Select Layout Margins. Select Custom Margins. In Margins, use the Up and Down arrows to enter the values you want. Select OK when done.Change default margins Select Layout Margins Custom Margins. Set your margins. Select Set As Default. Confirm your selection.
margin-left: auto; The auto keyword will give the left side a share of the remaining space. When combined with margin-right: auto , it will center the element, if a fixed width is defined.
In addition, the h2 element has a bottom margin of 20px. Again, common sense would suggest that the total vertical margin space here would be 90px (20px + 40px + 30px), but instead the margins all collapse into a single 40px margin (the highest of the three).
Margin is the outer space of an element, while padding is the inner space of an element. In other words, margin is the space outside of an elements border, while padding is the space inside of its border.
Auto margin is used by Apple, Google, Stripe, and other design leaders as a way to horizontally center elements. By setting auto margin to an element that has a defined width, you can horizontally center the element within the boundary of its parent.
Go to Home Borders, and then open the menu of border choices.
