The lights are red and white and indicate whether the lift was valid or not. The white light means good lift while the red light means no lift. Each referee will make their judgment and all three lights will display the decision simultaneously.
As mentioned, a powerlifting competition consists of three core lifts: squat, bench press, and deadlift (performed in that order). Using proper form, each athlete has three attempts (at each exercise) to lift as much weight as possible for one repetition.
One reason for disqualification is any downward movement of the bar before it docHubes the final position. Another reason is supporting the bar on your thighs during the performance of the lift. Also, if you also move your feet backwards or forward during the lift that also is a disqualification.
Another common error is downward motion of the bar. The bar can slow down or stop, but it cant go back down. This failure is denoted with a ๐›๐ฅ๐ฎ๐ž ๐œ๐š๐ซ๐.โฃ โฃ
Im sure many of you who have seen a video of a powerlifting meet before have seen the three white or red lights that appear after a lift. These lights indicate a good lift (white lights) or not a good lift (red lights). In order for a lift to count, you must have 2 out of 3 white lights.
A white light is given for a good lift, where the lift is allowed to contribute to the total and a red light given for a bad lift, where the lift is not allowed to contribute to the total. There are a very particular set of requirements each lift must satisfy in order to be given a white light.
The Dots Score is simply a ratio between a lifters body weight and the weight theyre lifting. Higher numbers are better. Also referred to as a coefficient, the dots score allows us to compare a lifters strength relative to their body weight.
Three officials serve as judges and collectively decide whether a lift is considered good or bad. Judges indicate their decisions by a panel of red and white lights (white indicating a good lift, red indicating a bad lift) displayed after each attempt.
