Shading occurs when ink spreads across paper in different thicknesses. In other words, when there is more ink on one part of the paper than another. Take a look at this example: Fountain Pen Ink Shading – notice how the same ink looks dark and light. You can see that some letters are much darker than others.

What is shading? It's a common (and often desired) aspect of fountain pen ink where there is pooling in certain parts of a letter when writing, so that the color and saturation of the ink appears different within a single letter or word.
Add a small amount of distilled water to the ink and stir. This will create a diluted ink solution which is runnier. This technique is often used with black ink as it creates subtle gradations of watery gray shades.

Um by scribbling. In our shading you see this a lot or i see it often in comics.
To get a smooth shade, you'll want thick strokes which are close together. Move your hand high up on the pencil and away from the tip. The more you angle the side of your lead towards the paper, the thicker your strokes will be. The thicker, the better!

Generally most artists use voltages around 7v-9v for lining (8 should be a good start) and 8-10v for shading.
Medium Stroke Length: 3.5mm It's most commonly used for color packing and shading.
Shading is where the ink pools in different spots during use, creating lighter spots and darker spots. I base my opinion of an ink's shading based on how much it shows up when using five different nib sizes: extra fine, fine, medium, broad, and flex.
