Putting it all together Once youve determined how thick your ink deposit will be and how large an area it will cover, you can calculate the approximate ink volume (V) for a single print. Simply multiply the ink-deposit height by the coverage area (V = I x A).
A useful screen printing industry standard is to markup items by at least 50% of your cost. If your garment costs $1.00, you would simply divide by 0.50 to calculate your margin goal of 50%. This means the component price of the shirt alone would be $2.00.
As compared to standard inks, screenprinting inks are more viscous and can print on a wide range of fabrics. Discharge inks, plastisol inks, and water-based inks are some of the most commonly used screenprinting inks. These inks have different properties suitable for different materials and print patterns.
The goal for most screen printers is to make 20%-45% profit on the shirts printed. If youre not sure that youre doing it right, check out local shops and make sure youre competitive. If you cant keep up, consider printing something special that those shops dont offer, like specialized ink or screen prints on wood.
You can usually print at least 180 shirts per hour and because the Trooper is an automatic t-shirt printer, you can print 180 - 6 color shirts an hour.
Plastisol ink is one of the most commonly used screen printing ink type and has been around for decades. It has been the primary ink until fairly recently as more and more companies have been converting. Plastisol is a much more user friendly ink, as it is more accurate for matching Pantone colors.
In the US, the amount of revenue screen print shops make follows a fairly normal distribution. This means the overwhelming majority of shops collect revenues between $100,000 to $1,000,000. There are hundreds of shops with revenues above $1M.
A printing and signage business has a ~12% operating profit margin (EBITDA margin) after the cost of services and operating costs (salaries, maintenance, rent, etc.) have been incurred. There are various recurring costs involved in running a printing and signage business.
