The final paragraph of your letter should restate the character traits and skills the applicant possesses, along with your warm and sincere recommendation for what they can contribute.
At the end of a character letter, most writers make an ask of the court. This can be as simple as requesting leniency, in consideration of the defendants exemplary history. However, in some cases, a letter writer may make a sentencing request.
Make a Request The character letter should end with a specific request about sentencing. This request should be reasonable.
End with the writers signature If you are writing a reference letter via email, end the letter with your name and a digital signature that includes all of your relevant contact and professional information. In addition to your email address and phone number, consider adding your job title and work address.
You do not need stamps or markers or a public notarys endorsement. I am in academia in the US and if we felt the need to verify a recommendation letter, we would just (1) look up the writer and (2) contact the writer directly.
Specific examples are important. While a list of qualities is helpful, detailed examples that support and illustrate these qualities help employers better understand how a candidate might perform in various real-life scenarios. Concise letters are best. In most cases, personal references should not exceed one page.
I have always found [applicant] to be trustworthy, hard working and intelligent. When we worked on [example], [applicant] showed good communication skills and I could rely on them to take the initiative and to stay calm under pressure. For these reasons, I believe [applicant] would be ideal for the job of [role].
