I am a workers rights attorney and here is how I would handle being written up at work for something I did not do first I would listen without interrupting because theyre already gonna write me up arguing isnt going to fix it and I want to know where its coming from if I was in a union I would State my wine garden rights and say that Im not participating any further until my union rep is present either way at some point I will probably be asked to sign a performance Improvement plan or a write-up I wouldnt argue or try to plead my case in the moment because theyre already writing me up and thats not going to do anything instead I would simply sign to acknowledge that I received the write-up if I disagreed with the write-up I would write a rebuttal stating my side of the story I would do it via email so I have a copy and I would keep it very short using objective language after that Id kind of watch my back a bit at work but Id also fire off some resumes just to be safe

How to write up an employee Begin with the basic information. Generally, the top of the document includes the employees name, job title, department and ID number. Be specific when describing the incident. Use witness statements. Create a detailed improvement plan. Sign the document.
What should you include in an employee warning letter? The incident date(s) The name of the persons supervisor. The name of the persons HR representative. Persons name. Persons job title. A clear account of the verbal warnings given. The conduct they need to change. Consequences if the persons behavior doesnt change.
The write-up should focus on the specific objectives of the project, the methodology used, and the major findings. Regarding title, instead of giving a general, topic-like title, be specific and emphasize the explicit nature of the work.
A clear and concise employee written warning states and numbers each infraction and includes: The incident date(s) The name of the persons supervisor. The name of the persons HR representative. Persons name. Persons job title. A clear account of the verbal warnings given. The conduct they need to change.
Example of How to Write up an Employee On [date], at approximately [time], I observed that you arrived to work 20 minutes late. This is the fourth time you have been tardy in the past two weeks, despite previous verbal warnings. Corrective Action: This written warning serves as a final notice regarding your tardiness.
If you include several issues with the write-up, it can overwhelm the employee, and it could be interpreted as a form of harassment. Briefly describe the conduct that triggered the write-up and why that behavior or action is detrimental to the business. Document the conduct. Include the date and time of each violation.
