Shimmer inks are inks that have small glitter particles added to the ink. Shimmer is different from sheen, which is when an ink shows off a shine of a different color than the ink itself.
The first is a pen with a nib that puts down a lot of ink. The more ink, the more sheen. An ink with a lot of sheen might not show the sheen with an extra fine or fine nib, but anything medium or larger will work. The second thing you need to promote sheen is to have a paper that resistants ink.
Shading is where the ink pools in different spots during use, creating lighter spots and darker spots. I base my opinion of an inks shading based on how much it shows up when using five different nib sizes: extra fine, fine, medium, broad, and flex.

Some factors that effect sheen are the type of paper, the ink, and the nib size. Less absorbent papers, like Tomoe River Paper, are best to produce sheen from inks. Also, broader nibs that lay more ink onto the page help produce more sheen.

What is shading? Its a common (and often desired) aspect of fountain pen ink where there is pooling in certain parts of a letter when writing, so that the color and saturation of the ink appears different within a single letter or word.
Troublemaker Inks has just recently moved studios and has also made improvements to their production process in order to be able to make larger quantities of ink. Thanks to this, we will be restocking Troublemaker Inks in larger quantities and more frequently.
