Shade Selection Tips Select the shade at the start of the appointment before the tooth dehydrates during treatment. Polish extrinsic stains from the tooth and adjacent teeth. Cover the patients clothing with a gray bib. Turn off the units light. View the tooth at eye level standing 1014 inches away.
A custom shade guide is created using the composite system currently used in your clinic. It can be created for each individual shade or even in a layered approach for commonly used dentine/enamel combinations or characterisations.
Purpose: Commercial shade guides are frequently used for treatments where the shades of teeth are being reproduced or altered. Where differences between shade tabs and the natural teeth are small, difficulty is often experienced in determining the closest match.
A Veneer shade card, or Veneers shade chart, is a useful tool that includes all the undertones that teeth naturally have. They are divided into 5 main categoriesReddish Brown (A), Reddish Yellow (B), Grey (C), Reddish Grey (D), and Bleach Shades (BL).
Digital technologies can provide enormous advantages in everyday clinical practice and ensure more precise results in shade selection. Additionally, they can facilitate easier communication between the treating dentist and the dental technician, and better esthetic results (Culic et al., 2018; Moussaoui et al., 2018).
Digital shade selection is based on two types of measurements namely spot measurement and complete tooth measurements. Spot measurement. Devices based on this principle measure a small area of tooth surface.
Shade-matching devices are also called shade guides. The order of shade selection is first selecting the value, chroma, and lastly hue. Color matching should be done in a systematic way that ensures accuracy, uniformity, predictable results which are absolutely important in esthetic dentistry.
Shade selection involves the perception of colour, which depends on three entities: light source; object; and detector. Initial shade selection should initially be made with daylight or colour-corrected lighting, and then the shade should be matched under different lights to avoid metamerism.
