If you are following along with me, I am starting on card number seven, so lets get started. Alright. Lets talk about advance directives. A Veneer shade card, or Veneers shade chart, is a useful tool that includes all the undertones that teeth naturally have. They are divided into 5 main categoriesReddish Brown (A), Reddish Yellow (B), Grey (C), Reddish Grey (D), and Bleach Shades (BL).
Shade-matching devices are also called shade guides. The order of shade selection is first selecting the value, chroma, and lastly hue. Color matching should be done in a systematic way that ensures accuracy, uniformity, predictable results which are absolutely important in esthetic dentistry.
Tips for shade matching (shade taking) chair side: Always start a shade selection at the beginning of the appointment to avoid the teeth being dehydrated. Use natural daylight when possible. Keep patient eye level. Turn shade tabs so that the incisal area is facing upright and place edge to edge to the tooth selected.
Tooth shade guides are of two types i.e. MANUAL SHADE GUIDES and TECHNOLOGY ASSISTED SHADE GUIDE. Manual Shade Guides are further divided into Hue-Based Shade Guides and Value-Based Shade Guides. Majority of the commercially available shade guides are Hue-Based and not Value-Based.
Tooth shade determination should be done before preparation, since after preparation the tooth shade appears lighter due to dehydration.
Turn shade tabs so that the incisal area is facing upright and place edge to edge to the tooth selected. Incisal area of the shade tabs should be placed closest to the tooth selected, and parallel to long axis of tooth to determine shades. Make a shade selection between 5 to 7 seconds to avoid eye fatigue.
RECOMMENDED PROTOCOLS FOR SHADE SELECTION [1] Remove bright color from the working field. Always clean the tooth by using prophylaxis paste prior to shade selection. Its important not to view the shade comparision for more than 7 s to avoid eye fatigness.
Shade Selection Tips Select the shade at the start of the appointment before the tooth dehydrates during treatment. Polish extrinsic stains from the tooth and adjacent teeth. Cover the patients clothing with a gray bib. Turn off the units light. View the tooth at eye level standing 1014 inches away.
