Rule 5: Color Or you could mix and match shade colors in a room for added visual excitement, or choose colors that dont blend into the background wall treatments. For chandeliers, changing the color and style of clip-on shades is an easy and instant upgrade that can enhance the look of your room.
There are three basic types of lamp shade fittings: spider fittings, uno fittings, and clip-on fittings: Spider Fittings: Spider fittings are the most common type of fitting for table and floor lamps and are used with harps.
Finials Fittings These decorative caps secure the lamp shade in place. The portion of the inside of the lampshade that attaches the shade to the lighting and stand components is the fitter.

Lampshades by material Common fabric materials include silk, linen and cotton. Fabric shades are reinforced by metal frames to give the lampshades their shape, while paper or plastic shades can hold their shape without support.
Types of Lamp Shade Fitters Fitters are not interchangeable, so be sure to use a shade with the correct fitter for your lamp. There are the three common fitters: Spider, Clip-On, and Uno. The spider lamp shade is the most common type of fitter for table and floor lamp shades.
A spider fitter is made up of three metal prongs, sometimes called arms, that come together in a circle, or washer, in the middle to attach to a harp on a lamp base. A harp is an upside-down u-shaped metal piece that is connected to the base and sits around and above the lightbulb.
Uno Lamp Shades They have an inner ring that slips over the socket and are held in place by the bulb. This design makes it simple to replace the bulb. The installation process doesnt require any tools at all. Once you unscrew the bulb, you can attach the shade in seconds.
A translucent lampshade made from white or otherwise thin fabric offers more light and diffuses that light around a room.
Parts of a lamp shade and assembly The three most common types of lamp shade assemblies are: spider, uno and clip on.
