Headers and footers are only visible in Print Layout view and Print Preview. To indicate when the headers and footers are not active, the information contained within them appears greyed out or faded.
Footers should be unobtrusive and a font size of around 9pt is adequate. The page number can be a little bigger. The document title should be a little larger at 10pt. There really is no need for the the document title to be any larger, if it is going to appear on every page.
Choose a new font color from the dropdown menu that appears. If the header is too close to the top margin, it may appear faded. To correct this, pick Margins from the Page Layout menu. Adjust the top margin to give your header additional space.
