Most Visible Color Combinations for Signs Black, dark blue, gray, or red lettering on a white background. White or yellow lettering on a black background. White or yellow lettering on a dark blue background. Black or red lettering on a light blue background. Black, dark blue, or red lettering on a yellow background.
A dark text color on top of a light gradient background allows for readability, while also being pleasing to the eye. Light backgrounds: Using a light color shade with black or dark text is a great way of adding subtle color. Try black text on light blue, pale green or gray background.
Their general findings were: 1) Black and white were consistently rated as the most readable; 2) Color combinations that included black were rated more readable than those that did not; and 3) Darker text on lighter backgrounds were rated higher than lighter text on darker backgrounds.
If you are using a very dark background, no matter what color text you are using, use the lightest shades of that hue, so it contrasts with the background colour. Vice versa the rule applies, if you have a very pale background color, use a darker shade of your text colour for legibility.
If your design has no background and is printed on a clear material (i.e. Clear Vinyl or Clear Static Cling), white (or very light-colored) text stands out the best on windows. Even if your window is not tinted, the eye will read the window as dark, so white or light text on top of it will be the most-noticeable.
If your grey is a dark one, choose a bright, vivid color to stand out. Neons will probably look good. If its a 50% black grey, you can go for either black or white. If the grey background is a lighter shade, use rich, darker tones of which ever color you prefer.
Approach to Decrease Eye Strain Yes, we need to avoid pure black because of eye strain issues (contrast). So we choose dark gray to replace pure black.
Black text is recommended for use on light backgrounds, and white text on dark backgrounds. If your app has both light and dark themes, make sure the text is available in a contrasting color against each theme.
