(upbeat music) Okay, so if youre using Google Sheets and you have a table of data. We have one here, and were going to try to sort it by date. It doesnt always work very well, and its usually because your dates are broken. And Im going to show you a couple of different ways to fix them. Well start with this short table here just so you can see it easily, and then I built a longer one, too. And Ill show you a different way to check them in case that works better for your layout. So, the first thing, lets act like were going to sort it, so well select B3 through C14, and well do Data Sort Range. You can do these preset sorts here, but they dont always work like I want them to. So, just control it exactly by doing Sort Range. Its going to ask you a few things. So, this data does not have a header row. If you look at where I selected, I did not go all the way up, so leave that unchecked. And well sort by Column B. Use conditional formatting rules in Google Sheets On your computer, open a spreadsheet in Google Sheets. Select the cells you want to apply format rules to. Click Format. Conditional formatting. Create a rule. Single color: Under Format cells if, choose the condition that you want to trigger the rule. Click Done.
To apply the formatting, you simply go to the Home tab Conditional Formatting Highlight Cell Rules and select A Date Occurring. Select one of the date options from the drop-down list in the left-hand part of the window, ranging from last month to next month.
