iamp;#39;ve noticed a writing mistake in emails from my students that happens pretty regularly and itamp;#39;s spacing with commas and periods you should never put a space before a comma or a period and you should always put a space after so keep that in mind the period and comma always go with the word before then there should be a space

Here are the rules for using bracketing commas: Use a pair of bracketing commas to set off a weak interruption which could be removed from the sentence without destroying it. If the interruption comes at the beginning or the end of the sentence, use only one bracketing comma.
It is used to join two complete sentences into a single sentence, and it must be followed by a suitable connecting word. The connecting words which can be used in this way are and, or, but, while and yet. Here are some examples: Norway has applied to join the EC, and Sweden is expected to do the same.
A gapping comma indicates that you have decided not to repeat some words which have already occurred in the sentence: Jupiter is the largest planet and Pluto, the smallest.
Use commas to separate three or more words, phrases, or clauses written in a series. Example: George traveled to Spain, France, and Germany. Bracketing commas are used to mark additional information in a sentence. For example: These studies, in spite of their shared focus on locality, approach the topic from contrasting perspectives. You can check you have used these commas correctly by removing the bracketed section from the sentence.
