the letters of recommendation are very important um and i always like to caution people on a couple of things we accept ours is exactly two its no more no lasts two recommendation letters and they can be academic or professional other law schools have different policies so always check with the schools youre applying to but um i caution students about having if you live next door to a judge and your mothers best friend is a senator but you have never clerked for or worked for them in any capacity they are not going to be your strongest recommenders theyre going to tell me how much they love you that theyve known you your whole life what a great person you are but they cant tell me if you show up on time if you work hard if you stay late if you help other people any of that um academic its great to have a professor that maybe youve had more than once that you have sort of built a relationship with uh and somebody who can tell me you know did you struggle in the beginning of the

Most law programs require two or three reference letters for admission, although they may accept more than just three. While references from faculty members are ideal, law schools may seriously consider nonacademic references as well, especially if applicants have been out of school for several years.
