[Music] [Music] hello and welcome to another exciting episode of inventors quick tips in this episode we will be discussing the background section of a patent application and some dos and donts for an effective background section of your patent application just to review here are the key parts of a patent application the field which is a one or two sentence statement on the topic of the invention a background a summary a brief description of the drawings which is a sentence or so describing each drawing a detailed description that goes into detail about what the drawings show the claims which is the legalese that spells out exactly what your invention is and the abstract which is a summary paragraph of your invention for this episode were going to be focusing on the background but before I get into that I want to take a really quick detour to talk about what shapes and guides how we write patent applications and it comes down to three main things first are the rules these are things
