How to Set zip code in csv

hi im steve friedman with rockstar excel and today im going to show you how to fix zip codes when excel strips out the leading zeros now the problem is u.s zip code should have five digits and sometimes they start with a zero but when excel sees the number it assumes that a number should not start with zero and will remove it so if you were to go here and type say zero whatever and then any four numbers excel will just change it and remove the zero now one way to fix that is if you start it with an apostrophe and then uh type start it with a zero that will make excel see it is text and it will keep the zero but if you have a spreadsheet with say 10 000 or so rows its not really practical to do that one at a time so theres a better solution and that is you use a formula that takes all of 10 seconds to do which is just equals text a2 or the cell that you want to change uh and then quote zero zero zero zero quote close parentheses uh and then that uh turns it into a five digit number

To format in Microsoft Excel, do the following: Open Microsoft Excel. Click File New Workbook in Excels top toolbar. Click From Text in the Data tab. Select the desired . Click Get Data. Select the radio button next to Delimited in the Text Import Wizard. Click Next. Select the appropriate Delimiters.
Right click on Zip Code field then click on Group then apply that then drag that grouped New into Work Area. The following Example will help you.
Excel/HTML is dropping leading zeros for Zip Codes Locate the Zip Code column. Right click the letter at the top of the column. Under the Number tab, select the Special category, and then select Zip Code. Your zip codes will now appear with the correct leading zeros.
Open Microsoft Excel (make sure it is the Excel file you want to duplicate in CSV format). Underneath file name at the bottom of the save screen you will see option Save as type. In this field select CSV (Comma delimited). Two dialogue boxes pop ups will appear alerting you that formatting is different.
One method is to use the Text to Columns feature. This can be found under the Data tab in the ribbon. Once you have your data in the correct format, you can use the Sort feature to sort by ZIP Code. Another method is to use a formula to extract the first five digits of the ZIP Code, then sort by that column.
If you type a column of ZIP Codes into Excelsome five-digits and some nineyou may wonder why they dont sort correctly. The reason is that Excel recognizes the five-digit codes as numeric entries and the nine-digit codes as text entries.
