There are three different kinds of subordinate clauses: adverb clauses, adjective clauses, and noun clauses. Each of these clauses are introduced by certain words.
A subordination clause ranks lenders by payment-priority order in the event of foreclosure, sale, or liquidation. Subordination clauses are most common in mortgage refinancing agreements, home equity loans, and HELOCs.
In real estate, the mortgage taken out first and used to buy the property is the first mortgage. This primary loan is also called senior debt. If the property, at a later time, has either a home equity loan or home equity line of credit (HELOC) placed on it, that is called subordinated debt.
