The tone curve is a tool in Lightroom used for adjusting tones to make images brighter or darker, and to adjust colors. Tones, from shadows, to darks, midtones, lights and highlights are adjusted using the RGB curve. Colors are adjusted using the separate red, blue and green curves.

To make tone curve adjustments using the Targeted Adjustment tool, choose Parametric Curve. Then, drag the tool in the preview image. The Parametric Curve Targeted Adjustment tool adjusts the Highlights, Lights, Darks, or Shadows curve region based on the values in the image where you click.
Select the desired layer with the image from the Layers panel. Highlight the object/area with a Selection tool, such as the Quick Selection tool (see Photoshop: Selection Tools for more details). Select the desired Adjustment from the Adjustments panel. A new mask for the Adjustment will be created.
Adjusting image color and tone in Camera Raw In the Open window, select one or more camera raw files, TIFFs, or JPEGs, and then choose Camera Raw from the Format menu. Click Open. Use the controls in Adobe Camera Raw to adjust the settings. You can use the Adjustment brush to apply edits to specific areas of the image.
You can also adjust the Tone Curve independently of the sliders by clicking the Edit Point Curve icon at the panel's top (indicated by a white circle). You can then manipulate the tone curve by clicking and dragging the line. Moving the line up towards the top left of the histogram will brighten your image.
