Using a Personal Access Once youve created a , you can enter it in the password field when prompted for a password within either the GitHub web interface or on the CLI. Note that GitHub may explicitly ask for a password, but you can still enter a in most cases.
To authenticate API requests, you can use basic authentication with your email address and password, your email address and an API , or an OAuth access . All methods of authentication set the authorization header differently. Credentials sent in the payload or URL are not processed.
In the upper-right corner of any page, click your profile photo, then click Settings. In the left sidebar, click Developer settings. In the left sidebar, under Personal access s, click s (classic). Select Generate new , then click Generate new (classic).
Here are some basic considerations to keep in mind when using s: Keep it secret. Keep it safe: The signing key should be treated like any other credential and revealed only to services that need it. Do not add sensitive data to the payload: s are signed to protect against manipulation and are easily decoded.
This topic demonstrates how to generate an access manually using Authorization Code Grant authentication or with a refresh .Add a secret key. Request the authorization code. Obtain the access . Get your users base URI. Use the access to make an API call.
You can manage your Identity s by navigating to your Autocode account management page and selecting Identity s.
Once an application has received an access , it will include that as a credential when making API requests. To do so, it should transmit the access to the API as a Bearer credential in an HTTP Authorization header.
Using OAuth 2.0 to Access Google APIs Obtain OAuth 2.0 credentials from the Google API Console. Obtain an access from the Google Authorization Server. Examine scopes of access granted by the user. Send the access to an API. Refresh the access , if necessary.
Under your GitHub user profile (not the repository profile), click the Settings link. Scroll down and click the Developer Settings link. Click the GitHub Personal access s link. Click the Generate new link and provide your password again if required.
Users of the REST API can authenticate by providing their user ID and password within an HTTP header.Procedure Concatenate the user name with a colon, and the password. Encode this user name and password string in base64 encoding. Include this encoded user name and password in an HTTP Authorization: Basic header.
