For example, a first aid needs assessment should consider: the nature of the work and workplace hazards and risks. the nature of the workplace. the organisations accident history.
Short answer: there are three basic first aid principles to follow. They are: preserve life, prevent deterioration and promote recovery. In summary; the concepts of the steps are preventing further danger, preventing worsening and then performing treatment.
The primary survey is a quick way to find out how to treat any life threating conditions a casualty may have in order of priority. We can use DRABC to do this: Danger, Response, Airway, Breathing and Circulation.
The assessment will determine the risk classification of the worksite, which is then used to determine the first aid kits, first aid personnel and training that are required on the worksite. The first aid kit risk assessment needs to be reviewed annually and when business circumstances change.
Once an assessment is made, the next appropriate actions depends on the findings from these assessments. PRIMARY SURVEY. The goal of the primary survey is to help emergency first responders to detect immediate threats to life. Danger. Response. Airway. Breathing. Circulation. SECONDARY SURVEY. Head and face.
The course looks at the legal duties involved and how to identify what level of first aid provision is required. It is the employers responsibility to assess the level of first aid need for their organisation. This provision must be adequate and appropriate in the circumstances.
What to include in your needs assessment the nature of the work you do. workplace hazards and risks (including specific hazards requiring special arrangements) the nature and size of your workforce. the work patterns of your staff. holiday and other absences of those who will be first-aiders and appointed persons.
The primary survey is the first stage in any first aid assessment. It is an initial assessment of the situation and the needs of the casualty that will help you to understand whether you can approach and start to attend to them without putting yourself or anyone else at risk of harm.
