so im going to start talking about the fba process now um an fba is a functional behavioral assessment um it is a type of assessment that is completed to identify a function of a behavior so a function of a behavior is what causes that behavior it can be anything from sensory seeking something to avoid a task or avoid a person even or avoid a situation it can be attention seeking to gain access um to a person it could be attention seeking for a class for students for staff for parents even it can be to gain access to something or someone as well it looks at behavior as a whole so we try and look with an fba at the antecedent which is what happens right before the behavior the behavior itself we try and look at it very observably what does the behavior look like what um if we were to take a video of it we want to describe exactly what it looks like not what we think is happening but what it looks like um and then the consequences of the behavior and the consequence when we say that it
