in june 2021 in countries where exams cannot go ahead we are switching those students to a school assessment approach using student work were going to set and align standards in a fair way for both exams and for school assessment so that students will not be systematically advantaged or disadvantaged by either approach starting with the school assessed grade route were asking schools to determine each students grade in each subject using three substantial pieces of the students work and submit those grades to us for each syllabus we will identify benchmark centers these are schools that make large stable numbers of entries for that syllabus year on year we expect the distribution of grades for the group of benchmark centres to also remain stable year on year under normal circumstances we will then compare the school assessed grades submitted for these benchmark centres with the grades awarded to these schools in the june 2019 series by making this comparison we will be able to see
