To add a single symbol, first make sure your plus tool is selected in the tool box. Then make sure the symbol you want to add is also selected. You can tell it is selected because the symbol will have a light blue background. Now bring your cursor over to the schedule area. Your mouse cursor should be a plus symbol which means you're in symbol adding mode. Choose which row you would like to add the symbol to, and then left-click and drag your cursor on that task row. You'll see the date will show up where the symbol will actually be placed. Now release your left mouse button and the symbol will be placed on that row.
