Press these three keys together: Option (or Alt), Command, Esc (Escape). Or choose Force Quit from the Apple menu  in the corner of your screen.
Check the apps settings. Some apps offer a setting to make them reopen each time you log in or start up your Mac, or a setting to make them reopen windows. For example, Safari has a setting to control which windows it opens with. Make sure that the app isnt a login item.
On your Mac, choose Apple menu System Settings, click General in the sidebar, then click Login Items on the right. (You may need to scroll down.) Make a list of the login items in the Open at Login listyoull need to remember them later. Select all of the login items, then click the Remove button .
Go to Settings Apps Startup to view a list of all apps that can start up automatically and determine which should be disabled. You can sort the list by name, status, or startup impact. A switch next to each app indicates a status of On or Off to tell you whether or not that app is currently in your startup routine.
On your Mac, choose Apple menu System Settings, click General in the sidebar, then click Login Items on the right. (You may need to scroll down.) Make a list of the login items in the Open at Login listyoull need to remember them later. Select all of the login items, then click the Remove button .
Click the Apple menu in the top-left corner and select System Preferences. Then choose Users Groups. Click the Login Items tab to see your list of startup programs. Choose a startup program to remove and click the minus button to clear it from the list.
Right-click on the app and hover over Options in the menu. Apps that are set to open automatically will have a check mark next to Open at Login. Click that option to uncheck it and disable it from opening.
Option (⌥) or Alt: Start up to Startup Manager, which allows you to choose other available startup disks or volumes.
